Oxandrolone

Oxandrolone is a synthetic drug that is prescribed for those people who want to gain weight after undergoing severe injury, major surgery or for other unknown reasons. It is also used to eliminate certain adverse effects of using steroids for a long time. The drug is also prescribed for patients suffering from bone pain as a result of osteoarthritis, or other conditions as may be advised by your health care provider.

How it works

Oxandrolone belongs to a class of drugs known as anabolic steroids. It works in the body by boosting the level of protein that is created in the body. This protein helps in building more muscles and also helps the body to gain more weight. The drug assists the body to generate more testosterone, which is responsible for muscle building.

Oxandrolone use

The drug is taken orally two to four times in a day as instructed by your health care provider. You should also take a look at the label to find out the exact dose you need to take at any given time. When taking it, you are not limited because you can take it with or without food. In case you forget a dose, you need to take it as fast as possible. If it is very close to the time you should take the other dose, you are advised to skip the missed dose and get back to your normal schedule.

Side effects and warning signs

There are certain side effects you might experience when you use Oxandrolone. Some of the side effects include:

  • Constipation.
  • Depression.
  • Change in your sex ability or drive.
  • Insomnia.
  • Unusual excitement or nervousness.
  • Bone pain.
  • Enlarged breasts.
  • Change in your skin color.
  • Pain while urinating.
  • Unusual menstrual periods.
  • Heaviness or weakness in legs.
  • Reduced heart beat.
  • Enlarged penis.

On a more severe scale, the drug might cause cysts that are full of blood in the spleen or liver. It might also cause fatal liver tumors. These side effects are hard to notice until they become life threatening. When the drug usage is stopped, these side effects usually stop or get reversed. Oxandrolone might cause changes in blood lipid leading to increased hardening of your arteries and other blood vessels.

If you take it for a long time, you might get addicted. This is the urge to feel that you need to continue taking it. On the other hand, if you stop taking it suddenly, you might get withdrawal symptoms such as depression, mood swings, fatigue, loss of appetite among others.

You should never use Oxandrolone if you develop allergic reactions to any of the ingredients found in it. If you have prostate or breast cancer, it is also advisable to avoid using it. In addition, if you are pregnant or have high level calcium in your blood, it is recommended you do not use this medicine.  

Interactions

There are some other drugs that might interact with Oxandrolone. It is advisable to inform your doctor if you are taking anticoagulants such as warfarin, diabetes drugs or carbamazepine because their adverse effects and actions might be enhanced. The drug also interacts with corticosteroids leading to severe effects such as swelling.
